In November 2024, Boone Power broke ground on a facility improvement project at our current location on Indianapolis Avenue in Lebanon.

On Monday, Nov. 4, Boone REMC broke ground on its new facility to support future growth and service excellence.

As our cooperative continues to grow to serve our members, we need additional space for employees and equipment. Since moving into our current administration building in 1999, we’ve seen a 140% increase in the number of active services. We have limited space for workstations, covered storage for equipment, and parking. Additionally, the height of our operations buildings does not allow for necessary maintenance on boom trucks, and we are challenged by ongoing maintenance issues.

The Boone Power board of directors considered remediation of our current structures, moving to a different location, and renovating the existing property. The board decided to use the existing footprint to best balance expenses with current and future needs. Additionally, the current location allows us to remain centrally located in our service territory and easily accessible off Interstate 65.

This project was included in the data provided to our external rates consultant to conduct a cost-of-service study in 2024. For the average General Service customer, the building project is expected to add a half-a-cent per kilowatt-hour. This is based on Boone Power’s average General Service member’s usage of 1,200 kWh per month. We do not need to implement a new rate structure at this time per our most recent cost-of-service study.

We are considering how we might be able to recycle some building materials and take advantage of energy-efficiency rebates. The board of directors has consistently kept costs in mind throughout the building project discussions. The directors have gone back to the drawing board several times to make the best decision for the membership and employees, balancing expenses with the need for a well-constructed headquarters that provides room for growth.
