Boone REMC is now Boone Power. We've rebranded, but we’re still the same local electric cooperative delivering safe, reliable electricity to Greater Boone County.

Tree Trimming

Trees that grow too close to power lines can be a safety hazard and cause blinks and outages. Boone Power’s rigorous tree-trimming, or right-of-way, program aims to reduce these risks.

Our vegetation management contractor is a trained arborist who surveys our service territory continuously to minimize harm to trees while achieving proper clearance from power lines. We take a proactive approach to reduce the likelihood of widespread outages and speed up restoration efforts.

Our contractors trim away branches that are growing through and above overhead power lines to reduce the likelihood of the branches falling onto lines.

By employing vegetation management professionals, we aim to strike a balance between our commitment to delivering electricity to our members and our commitment to the environment. We recognize the benefit that trees provide in absorbing carbon dioxide, producing oxygen, filtering pollutants from the air, providing shade around our members’ homes to reduce energy consumption, and beautifying our community.

If you’re planting trees around your home and there are overhead power lines along your street or near your home, follow the guide below to ensure the safety and reliability of our electric distribution system.

Also remember that you should always call 811 or visit https://indiana811.org/ at least two full working days before digging. Having underground utility lines marked before digging is mandated by law. Not doing so can lead to inconvenient utility service outages, expensive repair bills, serious injury, or even death.

Check out the video for information about how trees can make your home more energy efficient.
