Energy-Saving Tips
Consider the following quick and easy tips to start saving energy:
- Upgrade your lights to ENERGY STAR® LEDs. These bulbs don’t just last longer, they also use a lot less power to operate.
- Set your thermostat high in the summer and low in the winter. Even adjustments of just a few degrees can help you save a lot of energy over time.
- Replace the filter in your HVAC. Dirty filters make your system work a lot harder to heat and cool your home.
- Lower your hot water heater’s temperature. You probably won’t notice the difference, but you’ll definitely see the savings.
- Seal your ceiling. Gaps in your ceiling and around cutouts in the drywall can result in higher costs in heating and cooling.

Youth Outreach
4-H Electric Workshops
Our advisors work with local 4-H’ers by hosting workshops each year to help 4-H Electric participants learn fundamentals of electricity in order to complete their projects. Learn more about the 4-H Electric program through the Boone County Extension Office.
Electric Safety Demonstrations
Our energy advisors provide demonstrations on electrical safety and the science behind electricity for classes or other student groups upon request. Classes also are invited to come to the co-op for tours and to learn about electricity, safety, and co-op careers. If you're interested in scheduling a demonstration or field trip, please contact us here. Through our partnership with the National Energy Foundation, local fourth grade teachers can enroll in our Think! Energy program to help their students learn about electricity generation and energy efficiency. Learn more here.
