“One of the founding principles of cooperatives is concern for community,” said Mandy Saucerman, Boone Power’s Communications Director. “Celebrating the volunteer service of students is a great way for us to demonstrate this value.”
Past award recipients include students who have initiated a coat drive for the underprivileged, supported patients at Riley Hospital for Children, worked with special needs children, volunteered at a local animal shelter, raised money for the American Cancer Society, and more.
“We are thrilled that two of the winners last year were from Boone County,” added Saucerman. “We’re proud to continue supporting this recognition program and encourage local middle schoolers to share their stories of service by applying for the award.”
The applicant’s parent or guardian must be a member of an Indiana electric cooperative. Students can apply online at IndianaConnection.org/YouthPowerandHope. When doing so, the applicant will be asked to provide examples of and information about their community service activities, share any relevant photos, and list references who may be contacted for additional information. The deadline for entries is Friday, Oct. 3.
