Boone REMC is now Boone Power. We've rebranded, but we’re still the same local electric cooperative delivering safe, reliable electricity to Greater Boone County.

Net Metering

Boone REMC offers net metering for members who generate their own renewable energy, such as through solar panels.

Excess energy produced is sent back to the grid, and members receive credits on their electric bill.

This helps lower energy costs and encourages the use of clean, sustainable power sources.

Net Metering

As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, Boone REMC’s goal is a fair and reasonable rate structure that supports the use of distributed energy generation resources without shifting fixed costs to other members.

You can learn about our other renewable energy options we offer our members on our Renewable Energy page.

Basic Information

  1. The net metering rate is a great option for members who have distributed generation resources, including solar, wind and energy storage installations.

  2. If these resources produce excess energy (kWh), it is added to a bank of kWh for the account. This bank can be used in future billing periods to offset the energy that would have to be otherwise purchased to serve them [1].

  3. Your bill will clearly indicate the energy you consumed, generated and the net that is added to or subtracted from your bank.

  4. We require all members with interconnected distributed generation systems to provide proof of a $1,000,000 insurance liability policy. Please contact your insurance agent for coverage options.

[1] Avoided-cost net metering: Energy Delivery Charges for all energy (kWh) delivered to the service location are still applicable. Net metering applies only to avoided power purchases from and transmission through the bulk power system.
