The net metering rate is a great option for members who have distributed generation resources, including solar, wind and energy storage installations. If these resources produce excess energy (kWh), it is added to a bank of kWh for the account. This bank can be used in future billing periods to offset the energy that would have to be otherwise purchased to serve them [1].
Your bill will clearly indicate the energy you consumed, generated and the net that is added to or subtracted from your bank.
[1] Avoided-cost net metering: Energy Delivery Charges for all energy (kWh) delivered to the service location are still applicable. Net metering applies only to avoided power purchases from and transmission through the bulk power system.
